Political Update
“What Happened” by Scott McClellen
Criticism and Memoir and of Bush administration
If you want an insider’s account of the Bush administration years this is the latest hot addition to the leaks. In an election year this ‘no holds barred’ account of Scott McClellen’s time working for the Bush administration is a must read. It will keep you interested whicher side of the political debate you sit. One thing is for sure, in relation to this book you willnot be able to sit on the fence.
McClellan criticized the Bush aministration in his new memoir and accused Bush of self-deception and of keeping a permanent political campaign approach to governing rather than making the most appropriate choices. McClellan didn not go as far as to say that Bush deliberately lied about his reasons for going to war in Iraq and he wrote that the administration was not “employing out-and-out deception” to argue for war in ‘02, howerever he did state the administration used an aggressive “political propaganda campaign” over well-known facts to sell the Iraq invasion. The book was also critical of the press for its acceptanceof the administration’s view of the war and of Ms. Rice for being overly accommodating and too careful about protecting her own reputation.
